Rhodies

June 14, 2013

I painted this pitcher full of Rhodies that I picked out in the back yard on Saturday.  I placed the bouquet on the dining room table and when my cousin arrived for dinner she said you should paint these flowers.  So I did.  I wanted to experiment with painting some printed fabrics so the painting is a bit busy but I love color so I was happy with it.

Las Puertas

This pastel painting is about my efforts to go a little more abstract.  I liked the colors along
with the black door.  It is one of the many colorful houses of Mexio

Painting and Emotions

Today, I finished a pastel painting from a photo I took of my son, Charles ("Sandy") at age two.  In the painting, Sandy is on our friends' sailboat  wearing his life preserver and the boom with sail and block and tackle are behind him along with a view of the water and land.  I was listening to music as I painted and suddenly, a song from the 70's came on and between the music and working on Sandy's face, it brought tears to my eyes with the remembrance of that sweet little boy and of that segment of time in my life.  It made me feel such a connection to my son and my love for him.  There was a flood of emotions during this painting.  I found myself asking - Where did the time go?
Sailing
I just spoke with Charles, as he now likes to be called, who is, as of today,  39 years of age and I told him that I had just finished this painting of him.  He thought that was nice.

The Open Door

I just finished this little pastel 5" X 7" an interior which is based on my sister, Bonnie's house
in Rockport ME.  I was able to be quite loose on this painting so I am happy with the outcome.

Man from India, Mexican woman and a Homage to Van Gough

file:///Users/Experience/Desktop/100_4495.JPG

I saw this Mexican in the streets of San Miguel de Allende and asked her in Spanish if I could take her picture.  "Si por pesos"  she said so I gave her some pesos.  Artistically speaking, she had an interesting face and it was a challenge for me to do this portrait.  I was very happy with the results and I felt I was able to capture the essence of this woman.

I am spending some time at the summer place here in Maine as I do not have renters during September.  It is so peaceful here and I actually find myself becoming more creative just because I am so relaxed.  Today it is raining and I am taking this opportunity to finish a painting of Stargazer Lilies.  These lilies were in my garden and because we had a warmer than usual summer here, I think the flowers seemed to bloom more than they
had in past years.  They were so beautiful I had to paint them.
